the many faces of care

We got a new set of knives (X-mas present) that I started using yesterday. I don't know if it was their unfamiliarity or if they're just really sharp but I immediately cut my palm (very stigmata-like!).

Big A had just headed out to run some errands but popped back in (perhaps I'd yelped/perhaps he's clairvoyant) to check on me and sure enough I needed help.

He applied pressure and yelled for Nu to grab a bandaid, which Nu delivered and Big A then applied to my palm after the bleeding stopped.

Big A left.

I resumed dinner prep.

And I cut myself again.

I applied pressure to the wound myself and yelled for Nu to bring me another bandaid.

Nu came back. "Here," they said putting something down on the kitchen counter. "I got you a bunch of bandaids just in case you cut yourself some more."

Those cut sound painful! I hope they are healing well. That’s a tricky place to keep a Band-Aid on. I’m encouraged to hear about the protesting that’s happening across the nation. The new cycle is just absolutely bonkers.

Eeek! Eeek! Be careful with those new knives! They sound dangerous. Or maybe YOU'RE the dangerous one (danger is your middle name?). Hahaha Nu, they are too funny!

Take care.

Yes- I've cut myself with new knives before! I think we get used to our old knives and know exactly how to use them. Anyway- ouch. Hope you made it through dinner prep without any more incidents!

The same thing happened to me the last time we got new knives, maybe 15 years ago. (Perhaps it goes without saying it's not a problem any more.) Preschooler North would always express concern and tell me to be more careful and then warn me not to "steal" their Dora or Strawberry Shortcake bandaids. Their sympathy extended only so far.

LOL, StephLove. Kids are very specific about their concern.

Maya--Sam is wavering about taking my knives to be professionally sharpened. He is worried I'll "kill myself with them" by not being careful enough.

But twice in one prep session? My goodness. You need chef's gloves. XO

The cuts are almost healed, Lisa; thanks! The news cycle is impossible to keep up with... I wonder if one ought to try...

Haha, Nicole! "Danger" is my middle name? I'm going to use that :)

Thanks.

I think that's exactly it, Jenny. My old set was so blunt, I couldn't hurt a carrot. No more incidents (knock on wood!).

Aw! I love that North story!! (All North stories?) There are some similarities in their sense of humor and Nu's too... (or so I feel, anyway.)

I think Sam's idea is excellent, Nance. But perhaps you should wear those chef's gloves for a while when you get your knives back... They're the ones that look like chain mail, yes? I could be persuaded :)

Have you ever taken a knife skills class? I haven't, but I think both of us could benefit from something like that!

The list of things we can do together grows and grows. It's a sign :)?

Yikes! I think it has been a bad week for all of you and hope you are healing well. There is another protest on the 17th. Not sure if I can go but I'm going to try.

Jeanie, Will email you as well--but I think they've canceled tomorrow's protest due to the weather advisory.
