it's beginning to look

a lot like a bit like Christmas. CF, my dear friend who moved to South Carolina sent us a beautiful Christmas centerpiece, JG sent us treats from Sunnyland Farms, AK sent a blooming amaryllis, SV made a donation in memory of Scout. It seems my girlfriends are into sending things that are more like experiences, and I love it.

Counterbalance: My uncle told me that there had been a fire in my sister's office building in Bangalore. My sis then sent me a video of the 20-story fire. Scary. A student whose poetry I love received a rejection. Sad. One thinks we'd be able to protect the people we care about from harm or disappointment, but we're so limited.

Pic: CF's centerpiece--I lit the candles to send her a thank you photo. Bonus peek of Nu snacking in the kitchen.

I always love all of your pictures-- like the bowl bursting with books and your happy magazine rack from the other day-- so much color and life and rick texture in your house-- literally and figuratively.

Thoughtful friends are their own gift. What lovely presents.

I remember talking to my students about rejection letters. It took a bit, but we finally got around to seeing them as a
Triumph Of Hope And Fearlessness. They did it! They sent their work out into the world and here is the proof! Not many people can even say that they did that. We celebrated every single one.

Nicole--I agree, I agree!

StephLove and Gillian--thank you!

Sarah--Funny you should ask! Rick is my FIL's name, for real! LOL! And thank you for saying "texture" and not "clutter." I have goldfish brain, so if that Zen book and the assorted games weren't right there in that bowl on the countertop, I'd forget to ask kitchen companions to read me something zen or play a word game while we/I work.

Nance--Thank you. And what a wonderful perspective about rejections! May I share your comment? In any case, it reminded me that I have no submissions out at ATM, and need my own "Triumph Of Hope And Fearlessness."

NGS--May I make you one?

Of course you can. Please do.
