talky-talk

A day for visitors!

L and I took a long summery walk in the morning and then L disappeared for a while and showed up bearing this month's bookclub book and a ton of cut lilacs from her garden. The whole downstairs smells so heady.

LV stopped by later for tea and treats and we just jabbered away through tons of stuff and pizza delivery and he helped me break up Max's excited and immediate friendship with the pizza man + desire to explore his van. LV didn't leave until the imminent arrival of my C U N(ext)T(uesday) club, where he rightly felt he would be out of place.

Big A and Nu crept in during the short time no one was around to sneak some pizza for dinner before doing their own thing (nap before work, swim with friends).

It was supposed to be pizza and movie night, but the girlfriends did not pick a movie and we just talked for hours instead. We're going to do the celebrations everyone feels they missed out on--BL didn't get a bachelorette party during the pandemic, for instance.

Everyone agreed that I need a third puppy, so I either have the best friends or they're all enablers. I got to confess in a safe and supportive space that the other day I thought Nu was kissing me goodnight, but they were actually kissing me goodbye, and I didn't realize until the morning that they had not spent the night at home. I did not know where my kid was at 10 pm or any point after. Yikes.

Pic: Peonies from my walk with L this morning. What even are these colors?! I love summer.

What a delightful entree into your summertime! It sounds absolutely perfect in every way.

The peonies around here really slow down my walk each day. I have to stop and bury my face in them every time. Glorious!

I mean, they can be both the best friends ever AND enablers at the same time! I love a safe and supportive group where you can confess things.
I love that you just chatted instead of watching a movie. I feel like that would happen in our group as well. When I'm with friends I'm the literal worst to watch a movie with, I always want to talk through it!

Enjoy.

Sounds like an enjoyable day.

Those colors are fantastic. Yup. You won't know next year once college begins where they are either -- but it's different when it is at home. In later years we learned how Greg went out late at night (from his mom's) and no one knew. Yup. When it comes to animals, I'm an enabler!

I would almost always rather talk than watch a movie! And I guess this means we'll be seeing that third puppy any day now? ; )

Was Nu in trouble? I was in trouble at that age for not coming home once or twice, because my mom was so worried when she discovered I wasn’t home. If she had known where I was she wouldn’t have been angry. One of those times it wasn’t entirely my fault. I lost my house key, I came home at a stupid hour of the night (probably midnight or 1am), and knocked and rang the bell, but no one woke up to let me in. My poor mom probably woke up as I was leaving and that’s how she discovered I was gone. Much better today with cell phones!

Nu is in that weird in-between period where they are close to launching but have not launched yet. I was the 4th child in my family of origin so my parents were very wise to all the ways a child could misbehave thanks to my older brothers... so I could not get away with ANYTHING.

The peonies are gorgeous! And what a fun gathering with friends! I would have opted for conversations over a movie. You should def do a delayed bach party for your friend. Phil actually did not do his bach party (which was a golf outing) until the fall after we got married. We got engaged in Dec and married in May so there just wasn't time for a guys golf weekend given that our weather is pretty unpredictable in the spring in MN! I didn't care at all so we didn't let the fact that the was already married prevent him from a fun weekend with friends!

Since clearly nothing bad happened, I think we should view that story as hilarious rather than embarrassing. Angus once left in the middle of the night because both he and his girlfriend were awake and she came to pick him up and they went for McDonald's. He left a note saying where he was and said "I understand if you hate me" lol. I texted him and told him to just tell me when he got home.
You have a C U N T club? Has this been explained at some point? Is it because you meet on Tuesdays and are very funny? I approve!

That's exactly how I felt--a summer welcome committee!

I like the image of you pausing to bury your face in peonies, Nance :).

I mean that's the best part of watching a movie together, right? I don't think I could be with people who don't do that! If you're a movie-shusher, we could be friends, but maybe we shouldn't watch movies together.

Thank you!

Thank you, Steph! (?)

You're an enabler of joy, Jeanie :).
Technically, I did have info on where Nu would be, but I didn't remember.

Fingers crossed, Jenny! Pick up would be after Mid June anyway...

All the misunderstandings of the olden days before cell phones! It must be terrifying to be the mom of an adventurous young woman... I'm thinking of you, J; and of myself, and wondering how I came through those years mostly unscathed.

Nu wasn't in trouble, and I would have remembered where they were if I realized they weren't home (although I didn't!!).

You and Phil are so chill--I love that. I think A and I are there now, but it took us decades to get to this point!

Kids these days don't seem to be doing very much misbehavior-wise... Fingers crossed that it stays that way!

These teens are quite tame, and this story is an excuse to laugh at how bad I am at keeping track of things. The CUNT club came about by accident, but post Vagina Monologues, I'm a cunt fan and I like it!
