2) As of today, little puppy Lego is still available. I thought today (Boss Day!) would be decision day, but Big A asked what if Max and Lego (who will be Max's size when full grown) gang up on Huck who is tiny and old--that is giving me pause. Also, should I be taking all the puppies? I feel a bit greedy like the Melissa McCarthy character in Bridesmaids. (But then look how happy she looks!)

1) My book was done. But I now have to make some serious edits because it's about trans politics, and the last few months have changed the landscape of trans rights significantly. The illustrator came through with some amazing work this week, and that is giving me the boost I need to complete this task.
2) I started the year wanting to get out a chapbook of poetry, and have made absolutely no progress. I have not even made any moves or submitted to any journals or anthologies. It's June. I should start. I'm glad it's summer and have some time to devote to this project.
3) Pic: Contributor copies of a poetry anthology I have a few poems in arrived today. Right now, it's available on Amazon, but I'm avoiding that site. It should be available directly from the press soon. All the poems in this anthology started here on the blog--most have undergone massive revisions except the one I wrote for Nu, which shows up with minor tweaks.

My copy of the anthology arrived yesterday! Yes, I DID buy it from Amazon. I could not wait. Sorry, not sorry. I can't wait to dive in! I'm so excited, my very own Maya poems.
Hmm, that is a very good point about the puppies. I didn't think about that, but it's possible. How old is Huck? What size ARE they? I thought they were similar but I guess not?
Speaking of size, it's funny what you get used to. Barkley was 50+ pounds and he was just regular dog size to me. Then Rex came and he seemed like Clifford the big red dog, but after having him for almost three years now (!!) now HE seems like regular dog size to me. I'm always like, oh yeah, he's pretty big, when I see him with other dogs.
It is very hard keeping track of adult kids who are home-- I feel you. Also, why not get another puppy? You are excellent at caring for things, and care work seems to energize you. (I might also get another puppy).
Don't feel bad about not starting the chapbook yet. Isn't that the kind of thing summer is for? Now is the perfect time to start.
Matthew and Xander were big cats. New people meeting them would always say "Whoa, those are big cats," or something like that. Now we have a medium-sized cat (Walter) and a small one (Willow) and sometimes I can't believe she's full grown.
I love the cover of the anthology. I'll wait and buy it from the indie press; thanks for telling us about that option.
This is a big writing/pub year for you! I know you are proud. I'm so glad that your voice is out in the world.
Yes, I guess it's hard to stay current of trans politics right now. Sigh. And, I love that poetry anthology cover! It looks really interesting.
I'm waiting with baited breath on the puppy decision!!!
How exciting to have more of your work published! Congrats, Maya!
Introducing a new pet can be tricky but it seems to work out with dogs. Cats are a whole different story (I could not imagine introducing a cat to our cranky girl).
It's exciting about the poetry and also the upcoming book, even if revisions are (unfortunately) needed. I suspect the dogs will be all right after a short period of adjustment when Huck might need a little extra love and oversight. But it might also be a good thing for him. In any event, you'll do the right thing. If you say "not now," there WILL be another litter sometime. It just might be a wait.
1) It's much safer to bring a puppy into the house than a bigger dog, because they'll learn the hierarchy of the "pack" meaning they'll know better than to mess with Huck and 2) I have zero plans to get any puppies, so you can have my share of the puppy allocations. See? Now it's fair!
Congrats
Thanks so much for getting a copy, Nicole!!!!!! That is so kind of you!!!!!!
Max (40 pounds) is at least double Huck's size (20 pounds). They play fight a lot!
I was going to start with a thank you... but Sarah, the best part of your comment is in the final parenthesis! Another puppy!!!!!!!!!!!
Willow sounds like Huck who is ten years old and 20 pounds and people mistake her for a puppy all the time. The vet called her a "perma-puppy."
Thank you, Nance! <3
Jenny, Your puppy comment made me smile! I'm glad you're as excited about it as I am :)
Thank you, Lisa!
A friend had puppies with "litter-mate syndrome" where her two adorable puppies were vicious with each other. So that was terrifying to contemplate.
Jeanie, That's a good reminder that there will be other puppies. Indeed. Sadly, there always are other puppies waiting for homes.
Thank you for the excellent point about puppy dynamics!
and :D :D :D
Yes, that certainly makes everything fair!
Thanks!
