second-best

My sister's two-week trip to visit me might feel more like a one-week trip because she'll visit two very dear friends as well. Those trips are as short as they can possibly be--three days each, one day to travel each way and one day there.

To be able to write that down calmly without bursting into tears has taken me all of a week. It felt so petty to begrudge the other visits, but I imagined two whole weeks to ourselves with lots of downtime. Now it'll be a slightly busier schedule, but still so good.

Anyway, trivia today--just me, Big A, AH, and SD. We got second place after leading until the final wager round.

Oh, what a disappointment for you. I'm sure she's looking forward to seeing her friends, though, after how long? It's a good thing you had your vacation together not so very long ago.

Congrats on your trivia silver medal. What a bunch of brainiacs you are!

Oh, my heart hurts for you, Maya. That is so disappointing. I know your week together (a whole week!) will be wonderful and precious, but of course it would hurt to have the time you expected cut nearly in half.

Yes, I can imagine this very well. If my sister were coming I would want her all to myself! But- if these are "dear friends" then they would probably be hurt if your sister didn't see them. It's probably hard for her to divide her time like this. Could you possibly go with her to visit the friends? Is this one day of travel each way by car? Maybe you could keep her company on the travel days and let her have the day in between with her friends alone? Just a thought...

I'm sorry about the shortened visit. I love finding mysterious little structures like that when I'm walking in the woods by the creek.

We deal with that on sharing grands with two other sets of grandparents or when friends come to town who have lots of other friends in the area. But yes, grateful for the time. Still, with such distance, I wish you had her to yourself for the whole of it (or a longer visit!)
