It was going to be outside, but then it looked like rain, so we moved everything indoors. The house was full of people who've known Nu since they were a baby/toddler and it wasn't just me getting emotional about this celebration.
Nu who'd consented to this party just to make me happy admitted at the end of the evening that they'd enjoyed being made a fuss of... !!! YAY.
I set out my kumkum bharani for people to place a vermillion blessing on Nu's forehead before they left. And my favorite thing about my multi-ethnic community is how each person made this Hindu tradition their own. While some people placed a dot (bindi/bottu), some drew a cross, or a crescent, and even... a smiley face!
Pic: Nu making a silly face because I asked for a pose. Behind them, their cake that says, "Grad U Ate." (I learned what the kids were saying and the pun wrote itself!)

Congrats Nu! OMG their Fraggle Rock shirt. FRAGGLE ROCK! Wow, does that bring me back. Don't mind me, I'll just be over here singing the theme song.
I'm so happy the party went well. I often feel very emotional thinking about the people who have known my kids their whole lives, and whose kids *I* have known their whole lives. And then I think about people who knew me when I was young, and it's a whole thing. A WHOLE EMOTIONAL THING. I get so emotional baby, every time I think of youuuuu (just traded Fraggle Rock for Whitney).
My friend's son's wife is having a baby and it's Our First Grandbaby, I knew this boy since he was about 14 and it's just so wonderful, you know? Ah, life.
I love that you have a beautiful community of people! How blessed we are, Maya.
Congrats
It was four star, Maya! Your home was beautiful, the food was delicious (unbelievably so) and I loved your kumkum bharani tradition. I met some delightful people (including an almost-neighbor from my subdivision!) and a woman I'd been receiving political email from, which was a huge big-smile treat. Best of all, Nu looked very happy and did indeed seem to be enjoying it all. Such a warm, smiling, great kid. I was impressed and delighted! Now, can you please rest?!
It sounds like a loving and warm celebration. Nu was certainly embraced and celebrated.
(Thanks for the slang lesson--I really miss being out of the loop now that I'm out of the classroom!)
Congratulations Nu! Love the Fraggle Rock shirt.
Congrats to Nu. I'm glad the party was a hit.
Maya, you are an utter delight! I love the pun. :)
Congratulations to your magnificent graduate! ❤️
