it's not novel anymore?

After weeks of  warning everyone around us to be careful out there as there were all kinds of respiratory illnesses out there in the ether/E.R., Big A has developed Covid-pneumonia. He had this weekend off and we had all kinds of plans and I'm so sad and mad about him being sick and me having to quarantine. He gets antivirals tomorrow, so hopefully he'll start feeling better.

This is round #3 of Covid for him.

Also, if that wasn't enough, he accidentally got stuck with a needle from a patient with Hepatitis-C as it was being disposed. That's counted as an active exposure and so he'll have to get tested and keep getting tested for a few months to make sure he doesn't develop that too. Hep-C is very serious, and the more I read about it, the the more it feels like I'm looking down an abyss.

Both these things are exposure because of his being in the E.R., of course. We joke about how his job is apocalypse-proof and he'll get paid in potatoes and eggs because he delivered people's babies or set their bones. But I'm ready for him to find another job. (Nu too, probably. They weren't happy about having to cancel the sleepover they had planned for tonight and they were going to hang out and get ready for the school dance with friends here tomorrow too.)

Pic: Everything is frozen and this morning Max and Huck decided to play right in the center of the pond we dug last year. I know I could wade in and rescue them, but I do worry about the ice cracking and dunking them into the water...

Oh no! Poor guy! My husband ended up with pneumonia in the fall of 2023. He lost 10 pounds and he did not have 10 pounds to lose! I hate it when illnesses crop up like this and force you to cancel plans. And the hepatitis C thing is terrifying. Sending you all healing vibes.

Oh no, I hope he's on the mend soon and he stays clear of hepatitis.

Oh NO, Maya! That is all awful. My husband hasn't had a rogue exposure in years (please don't let my posting this change that, internet overlords) but I remember how terrifying it is to wait and worry. And Covid-Pneumonia! Poor C! I hope the antivirals do their job quickly and efficiently and the Hep C is JUST A SCARE. xxoo

Oh no no no!!!! So sorry, Maya, I hope the antivirals do their job and stat. I think working in an ER must be right up there with one of the most high stress jobs around. And I have never thought about an exposure like being stuck with a needle - how scary that must be. I hope that he's not infected, but of course, the worrying and waiting are going to be hard. xoxoxo

I am sorry about the many layers of hard/bad. So sorry.

I was in a Costco earlier this week and saw that they sell bulk Subway gift arde. This made me smile. I sent you one in my mind. Love is being channeled your way. We all need an extra dose these days, which makes me glad that love multiplies when it is activated. :)

Oh Maya, that's a LOT, I'm so sorry! Covid, Pneumonia, and Hep C are all scary. I am hoping that the antivirals kick in and help him feel ALL better very soon, and that he does not develop Hep C. UGH. And the thwarted plans for a lovely, busy weekend sucks too. Hang in there!

Thanks, Lisa... I'm sorry about Phil. I hope he's gaining health back. We'd just gotten A to a stable place after long-Covid, which is how I suspect he developed his RA-like symptoms, so this is awful.

Thank you, Steph!

Thank you, Suz. Your comment reminded me that I used to worry about rogue exposures all the time in the early days :). Fingers crossed!

Thank you, Nicole. Honestly, I keep imagining that the test will be negative--it seems like such an insignificant brush with the virus--but of course science doesn't work like my imagination. Fingers crossed. Thank you for your Care-Bear-Stare! XOXO

Thank you for the Costco-sized smile this evoked, Steph! Love right back at you! <3

Thank you, Jules. I just ignored all the awful possibilities today and hope I don't have to deal with them if all goes well.

This is just Unfairness Overload. I'm so sorry for all these health concerns, maya. I hope your husband can fight it all off with the help of good medicine. Hang in there XO.

I had pneumonia when I was in grad school and ended up essentially taking a semester off and having to reschedule a prelim. It was...not fun. I broke ribs and coughed for months. It was early on in my dating history with Dr. BB and I think he was convinced I was always sick for a good year. I hope A's gets better a lot more quickly than mine did!

Thank you, dear Nance <3

I know! Thanks, Sarah.

Wow, Engie! That's a lot! Long Covid complications were what got A to the hospital last year, so this is an extra bad thing.

Thank you, Gillian.

Well, dang. That's the trifecta of awfulness, isn't it? I hope he's on the mend with the Covid-Pneumonia and the waiting period for Hep C isn't too stressful. (I say this as someone who would be VERY VERY STRESSED!)

Thank you, Stephany! I am super anxious and literally breaking out...

So behind blogging and checking in late, but I hope Big A is doing well with the Covid and that he's OK with the Hep C test. Very stressful for you all, I should think. Hang in.

Thankfully clear of Covid now, Jeanie. I'm just realizing I'd forgotten about the Hep-C. Haha. Time to follow up, I should think.
