It really did take them two and a half hours to fill the prescription for Big A's anti-virals at Meijer. I did the weekly grocery shop for 45 mins and would have lost my mind having to wait for the remaining time if I did not have a book on my phone (William Dalrymple's The Golden Road; recommended).
I was meant to be in Detroit poking through an art warehouse with LV who was sending me pictures of his finds from said warehouse and started to have serious FOMO. So after settling Big A in with meds and snacks and checking to see if Nu needed anything for the school's winter dance (they didn't), I took myself off to the Horrocks Farmers' Market and the thrift store. I reveled in all the growing things and got some hyacinth bulbs at the first place and found some things I plan to use as planters at the second and returned home feeling more rooted (ha).
I wish I could feel like A is doing better, but he isn't yet. Maybe tomorrow.
Pic: Tulips... at the Farmers' Market. Not in a field, not yet... but surely Spring is on its way.

Oh wow, that is a really long wait for the antivirals!! Thank goodness you had a book to entertain yourself. Usually, they prioritize meds like antivirals and antibiotics. They must’ve been absolutely slammed or understaffed! I’m glad you had an adventure, even though it wasn’t the one you had planned. Those tulips are absolutely gorgeous!
Get well soon.
What a bother that you had to miss your fun weekend. That seems like a long wait for the meds; I try to always have a book with me for appointments but I never would for something like groceries and pharmacy. Lucky you did, I guess. The tulips are gorgeous, and I hope A is feeling better soon.
Waiting like that is the absolute worst. I'm glad you got the meds and salvaged your weekend with a breath of Springtime. I hope things are on the upswing soon.
That's a hopeful thing, to buy bulbs. We have hyacinth from a pot of them a friend gave us when Beth's dad died in 2011. I planted them in the front yard after the flowers faded and they bloom every year around the anniversary of his death in March.
Okay, I know this wasn't the message you intended, but boy would I adore 2.5 hours to wander around a Meijer by myself. We don't really have a Meijer here and I adore it so much.
Hugs to you. Being a caretaker is never an easy job.
Oh goodness, I'm trying to find a better term than FOMO. KTYAMO (knowledge that you are missing out) just doesn't have the same ring, does it? I'm so sorry that you missed that, it sounds like it would have been great.
I'm sorry A isn't feeling better yet. I hope that tonight he turns a corner and feels better!
They *were* super busy, Lisa. Lots of sick people. Plus I think they were going in order of scripts recd. (I think! IDK)
Thank you, Gillian.
Thanks, Nicole. The kids tuned me on the books app on my phone. They're finding all sorts of reads for free these days...
This is very much the season of waiting. Some of it's pleasurable--I saw a lovely time-lapse video promising that in a few weeks we'll see things sprouting out of the ground. It was just lovely!
I love this story of your faithful hyacinths, Steph. I fell in love with hyacinths before I ever saw one because they sounded so lovely when I read Eliot's _Wasteland_ “You gave me hyacinths first a year ago;
They called me the hyacinth girl.'
—Yet when we came back, late, from the Hyacinth garden,
Your arms full, and your hair wet, I could not
Speak, and my eyes failed, I was neither
Living nor dead, and I knew nothing"
LOL, Engie! No, I totally get it! When we lived in Alma, we only had a Walmart and getting the Meijer in 2014 was a BFD and I'm sure we DID spend two hours marveling at all the upscale (compared to Walmart) stuff in the various departments. (But my heart wasn't in it this weekend.)
Gworl, you are so right! I used the term without thinking--it was knowledge, not fear. KYTAMO (kit-amo? kite-amo?) should totally be a thing.
Thank you for the well wishes <3.
Two and a half hours, gahhhh. That would drive me crazy, but what can you do?! That's why you always need to bring a book with you!
Tulips are my favorite flower!
"you always need to bring a book with you..." Nerds unite :)!
I love that tulips show up so early in the year!
Isn't Horrocks the best? Glorious photo. Someone brought me a lovely hyacinth as a hostess gift for our wine tasting this weekend and it has been so fragrant! I'll be sad to see it fade.
Horrocks is the best :)! I'm glad to be able to share that with someone who understands :)! I love that hyacinths come back year after year.
