patchwork world

Big A offered to take Nu back to college so I could work on what I need to get back to campus. Now I'm mostly all set for the start of term. I'm going to miss Nu and their quirky humor and their sweetly impulsive affections and their friends in and out of the house all day long!

After Big A returned, we walked to the planetarium for a show, and then walked over to our usual sushi place, and then headed home to watch a movie with Max and Huck.

So overall a nice (Boss) day for me, but the words of wise ones are ringing in my ears. Edward Said: "Every empire, however, tells itself and the world that it is unlike all other empires, that its mission is not to plunder and control but to educate and liberate." Tupac: "They got money for wars but can't feed the poor."

Happy Boss Day (yesterday) and Happy First Monday of January (it always feels like a Big Day). I'm sure you miss Nu. Mark was here for two weeks over the holiday and he went back to his apartment last night. It was so nice having him here. It's an energy shift for sure.

Your day sounds so pleasant, especially all that walking with your husband. Simply lovely.

I always loved--and still do!--spending time with my sons and their friends. They really do know The Best People. Hanging with all of them is always seamless and fun. It says a great deal about our kids that we enjoy their friends.

The quotes you mention are so apt. Fiery times in so many ways.

Your boss day sounded wonderful. It was probably good to get out of the house for awhile as I imagine it's quiet without Nu around. Will they be home for the summer or is that TBD?

Tupac is so wise!!

I'm so glad today is Monday and the kids are back in school. A 2-week holiday break is just too long for me... The kids had care for a good chunk of break, especially Taco since he was at my parents for a week, but they do best when they are following a routine. Paul was very happy to go back to school today, Taco would have preferred to lounge in his pjs for hours. So it goes.

Sometimes I look at my life, look at the news, and marvel at the disconnect. How am I so complicit in war crimes?

Tupac nailed it. Your day sounds terrific. I know you'll miss Nu but onward, right? When will they come home again? I'm thinking spring break? I finally have figured out what day it is (Monday) after two weeks of being confused and at day or two off! Back to the routine!

The walking to things is part of the treat for me right now since my commute to work is so long, Nance.

That is so true about kids and their friends...

I expect/suspect Nu will be back around June...

Nu loves to sleep in late and lounge too, Lisa... Most days, I wouldn't see them before noon :)!

Jeanie, Nu and I are both doing a service Spring Break this year! (Nu in Virginia and I in Florida), but we have a family trip planned in February...
Twistmas is such a strange Twilight time... I do enjoy it though!

Tupac’s quote - change ‘can’t’ to ‘won’t’. I know won’t is what he meant, but it jumps out at me.

I’m glad you had a good Boss day. I’m sure you’re missing Nu now that they’re gone back to school. I remember when I was in college and couldn’t afford to call my mom often, and she couldn’t afford to me, and we went weeks without talking. So much easier now with cell phones and so on, but it doesn’t mean you miss them any less.

True about "won't." Have to believe it's a form of control--hungry people can't think of revolution.

J--that really took me back!! When I first came here in the 90s, it cost like a 1.50 a minute to talk to my family in India! I had to budget so carefully. We didn't have a computer, so my mom would go to some Internet cafe and have the person there type me an email!

Monday # 1

It's just another Monday, but also the very first Monday of the year, so I'm counting that as significant!  I'm all prepped (Can...
