stopping by the woods on a snowy... afternoon

I graded most of the day and then sat on my butt trying to motivate myself to get off it when L emailed to see if I was up for a walk.

I was.

Except I couldn't find my phone when she came to pick me up. She tried calling, but my ringer is usually off when I'm teaching, so that didn't work. We finally found it using "Find My Phone" under a pile of kitchen laundry I'd been folding and then abandoned some time this morning.

All of which to say, when we got to Baker Woods, it was the much needed rest and reset I needed.

And now back to my regularly scheduled promises to keep and all the miles to go before I sleep.

I keep thinking about wearing my apple watch again just so I can ping my phone with it.

Maya, Rob was shovelling leaves into his truck - which is a one-ton - to take to the organic waste landfill. Do do do, shovel shovel, and then he realizes his phone isn't in his pocket where it always is. The zipper on his coat isn't done up. WHERE IS HIS PHONE. Did he leave (heh) it somewhere? I used a Find My Phone and it was indeed in the truck. So we called and called until we found it IN THE HUGE PILE OF LEAVES. It was a whole thing. Like, the back was completely full of leaves and he didn't want to take them all out. But he did get it - and it must have happened early in the process because it was close to the back. Well, lesson learned, make sure zipper is closed. It was a WHOLE THING.

So pretty. We just had our first snowfall yesterday, just a a couple inches and it's starting to melt already.

What a beautiful walk! I like our urban area, but I also wish we had woods nearby to walk through, especially on a snowy afternoon. I’m glad you found your phone and they were only under clothes and not a truck full of leaves!

I love looking at this photo. What a great place to walk.

Isn't it crazy how much we rely on our cellphones? I mean, losing it means more than just the expense of replacing it; those things not only carry our lives, but our security, too.

It's beautiful in the snow. One day in early November I drove by on the way to the pharmacy (Eyde bldg) and the sun was hitting it just right -- so gorgeous, like it was on fire with all the gold shining in the sun. Now it's in its snow season. A wonderful spot.

Nicole--that sounds like an effing NIGHTMARE! I'd much rather my pile of clean table napkins than a pile of leaves!

Steph--my first experience of snow was in D.C. ! (at that MLA we were talking about earlier this week!)

East Lansing is one of the most affordable places to live in the second-cheapest state, I think? It's a city without big city hassles. But no luck with things like concerts and big events.

Yes, better clean laundry than old leaves!

Nance, sometime in the pandemic I got one of those wallets you stick on to the back of your phone--so my phone is literally all of my ID and finances too.

I love knowing you get the local references--and probably know it all better than me--Jeanie! I love all the pocket woods and walks in in GL.

A walk outdoors with a friend is so good for the soul!!

I lose my phone all the dang time! At least once/day I have to page it using my Apple Watch!!

I literally cannot afford to lose my phone (my wallet is attached to it) and I don't have an apple watch--I'm determined to be better!
