I managed to design+order+address+sign+sendoff holiday cards. Somewhat casually in keeping with the ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ mode, but still.
I usually agonize over every small decision and have the whole family vet proofs. But this year, I did it around 3 am unilaterally and ordered prints from... the local pharmacy. I decided to mail the cards out today, and didn't let the fact that we didn't have holiday stamps stop me--I used every different kind of stamp we had at hand. We were out of address labels too, so I doctored and used the free labels a couple of organizations had sent me as a thank you for donations. I don't think family and friends will mind or fault me.
Then I rewarded myself.
I don't seem able to handle Christmas lights or Solstice parties, yet... but I'm off to OM's place in Grand Rapids for a sleepover. We plan to watch Homebound and Champagne Problems (the latter recommended by J!)
Oh, I also sent off a new chapter proposal this morning, and the editor found it "exciting." Very early stages; fingers crossed.

This sounds VERY positive, Maya. I love the snowman. Very relatable.
Having your editor find your chapter "exciting" is such a great compliment!! Yay!
I never pay attention to the kind of stamps people use! Well done on getting cards out, but I hate hearing you were doing that chore at 3am! But I can also relate as my sleep has been quite awful the last 3 months. Phil helps me pick out pictures for our card and weighs in on cropping them, and then he signs off on what I write and writes a clever sentence about how he filled his free time. This year it was "in his free time, Phil performs feats of strength for his unimpressed children." Last it was "in his free time, Phil dreams about a time when he had free time" or something to that effect. He writes humor for his firm's monthly finance publication so of course his annual Christmas card sentence has to be somewhat humorous.
I rarely notice stamps, but I did notice the one my sister put on her holiday cards: an American flag upside down. She never lets an opportunity go by to advocate for The Politics and I love her.
Have lots of fun at your sleepover! I feel sure that you will.
*I'm* finding it exciting that your editor found your new chapter prop exciting! Good Things are stacking up. You more than deserve them.
Exciting about your chapter! I love using appropriate stamps, and was very happy a few years ago when they had ‘happy birthday’ stamps. I should have bought more, because they don’t have them anymore. My nibling once sent me a thank you card with a thank you stamp, which I felt was next level impressive. I exclusively use the address labels that charities send me. Why waste paper?
I am shrugging at some stuff also. I Christmas shopped until I got sick and I have just told the kids that I will be nearly as surprised as they are at what they find under the tree (they're cool with it). Holiday cards are awesome because they are mail that is not a bill or a flyer, no matter what form they take. You are crushing it!
Well done on your chapter proposal. I've been in family craziness since Saturday with the prepping (they came a day earlier than expected) and then time with them all. I half-finished cards, haven't mailed a single out of town gift (well, one) and have just said, "It's what it is." Not my best year, physically or mentally, I think! But it's the year we have. I hope you have a wonderful week. I'm still looking forward to getting together sometime in the new year.
I want this snowperson as my avatar now, Suzanne.
I chuckled when I read ""in his free time, Phil performs feats of strength for his unimpressed children." That is funny!!
I think I wanted to get through the card as quickly as possible without dwelling on it too much this year, Lisa. Usually, I do like to get everyone's input too.
My sleep is so shot. I don't want you in *this* club with me!
(And I think you got a nice stamp :)
Dang, Nance. I wish I had seen your comment before I sent off the cards... I had to use some flag stamps towards towards the end and they're so tiny I had to work hard to get the orientation right... I could have just stuck them on however, and taken credit for being as cool/political as your sister!
I love the specificity of the stamps you're referencing, J. Our post office doesn't seem to have interesting stamps, I wonder if I can order them online. (Turns out you can, but they don't have a lot of variety. They do have Diwali and Eid stamps though!)
Thank you, Allison. I'm going to have to rely on the kids to do the literal heavy lifting today as I've mysteriously thrown out my back. I hope you get pampered and have a lovely Christmas!
That last line CHEERED ME UP SO MUCH!! Already 2026 looks so cheerful!
Take care, dear Jeanie, Happy Christmas with the fam, and best wishes for happiness and health.
That's a lot of work getting cards out in a rush. Congrats on getting the proposal out, too. We saw Champagne Problems over T-giving weekend.
It was either an inexplicable rush of energy or procrastination about having to do something else lol
