the times

Don't ask why I'm up at 3:27 a.m., but now I'm worried for friends and family in Hawaii and on the West Coast as tsunami waves from the Russian earthquake make their way across the Pacific ocean.

I was just thinking yesterday that this has been a beautiful summer--not too hot, just enough rain to keep everything lush, NO mosquitoes, a record-breaking number of fireflies and butterflies...

It has also been a month since At's ex SLE died, and this was the month of my mom's heart attack and Big A's mysterious illness. And suddenly--or so it seems--we're nearing the end of summer.

Pic: Nu is filling out health information forms, and Max thinks he can help. Huck milling around (under Max), is thinking about joining in, because she knows stuff too. I can't believe Nu will be off and living in the dorms in a few weeks!

My Maya was hoping that the tsunami warning meant she could work from home, since she works near the bay. We woke up this morning to no such luck (which I consider a GOOD thing).

It’s been quite a summer for sure. To quote the Sugarcubes, ‘Life’s both sweet and sour’.

My mom is vacationing in San Francisco (closer to the ocean than where she lives in Davis), which is currently under an advisory (downgraded from a warning). I am not too worried as the danger seems to be lessening, but it's not out of my mind either.

Yes, you have had a lot going on this summer- lots of worrisome and sad things. It does seem like summer is nearing the end. Our schools here start August 11, and I know colleges start early too.
Are you sad about Nu leaving? It will be a big change, right?

A month already? That doesn't seem possible. And yes, weather rearing its ugly ahead again with disaster-worthy issues. I have people out there too and am hoping this is just planning and preparation that doesn't materialize. I can't believe it's August either. Used to be fall didn't kick in till after Labor Day (I was here when MSU was on terms and started late September). Now it seems to happen mid-August.

Wait, ARE we nearing the end of summer? It's only July 30! Nooooooo!
We have been having a beautiful summer with *knocks on wood forever* no fires. We have tons of mosquitoes because we've had rain, but I'll take it.

Phil actually made a comment about how it's already August on Friday and he NEVER comments about the passage of time. Summer is going by quickly but I still have all of August to enjoy before the boys start school after Labor Day.

I bet it's wild to think Nu will be off to college soon! It's good that At seems to stop by frequent so the house won't be quite so quiet!!

Usually I want your Maya to get everything she wants... but I'm relieved there's no tsunami!

I'm glad the worry was for naught, Steph!

It will be such a HUGE change, and I'm excited for them... I haven't really thought about how it'll feel to come back to an emptier house...

Life carries on... sometimes that a comfort and sometimes an unfairness...

We're mid-August too, Jeanie. (Which means prep and meetings start a week or two before that...)

I shouldn't say the end of summer.... just the end of the summer break for me.

Boo on the mosquitoes!

I'm glad you all have another month of summer living... it has been a treat to follow along on your summer adventures!

At does stop by, and I hope Nu will too... But they're very different people, so time will tell what the new patterns will be, I guess.

Kids here start back to school mid-August. I'm stunned to even think of that. This was a quick summer and a very hot one.
It will be grownups and pups pretty soon for you at home. Quite the transition for you, my friend.

late-July thoughts

I shouldn't have said it was nearing the end of summer yesterday... What I meant was that it was the end of summer break ... for me .  O...
