I shouldn't have said it was nearing the end of summer yesterday... What I meant was that it was the end of summer break... for me.
Our D.C. trip is in a week, and I'll be in a full-day workshop (8-5) the day after we return. That's soon.
I can't believe I'm whining--what an incredible privilege it is to take a break as an adult. I always wish everyone got mandated time off. In my family, how nice it would be if At and Big A had at least a couple of weeks off to read, lounge, and turn off their alarms... How much better their health and wellbeing would be.
To someone's text enquiring after me, I responded "I’m good… waking up to the reality that one way or another it’s almost August…" And then on reconsideration: "I mean it’s August THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW 😂ðŸ˜"
Pic: Still summer in flower time, clearly.

I can imagine the looming dread of having to return to more of a strict schedule! You earn a summer break in a role like yours! I don't get summers off but I can take time off anytime I want throughout the year which is harder for educators to do! Some asset management firms require employees to take 6 or 6 business days off in a row to lower the chance of fraud/questionable actions because anything someone is hiding probably falls apart after 6 days, theoretically. But my firm does not have that policy... if it did, it would be easier for me to feel like I could take a longer stretch of time off!
I don't hear this as whining at all! I think everyone WOULD be better off with a break, very true.
True.
Sounds like a busy summer! Hope you have fun in DC!
I agree. We always have so much to do on vacation, we don't always relax and destress. But retirement -- that's good!
I'm also feeling like it's the end of summer, although I know fall doesn't officially start till September 21. Our kids go back to school August 11, and that feels like the end of summer to me.
That's such a neat tidbit about asset management firms! Clever! Yes, it would be easier for you to take that stretch if it were a policy, right?
I think Europe does this, no?
Yep!
Thank you... it has been non stop. I could have done without the health scares, however :)
Retirement is the dream :)! Nu told me this afternoon that I'm on my own for that. LOL
Same, Jenny. Your husband teaches too, so I get where you're coming from.
Schools start back up on August 11th here, so it does feel like we're nearing the end of summer, even though there are still two more months technically! I totally get it, even though I'm not a teacher.
I feel like such a downer bringing it up though :)
