It's Nu's Boss Day, but I ended up spending more one-on-one time with At today who was in town for a dental appt. We had the best time (walk, massages, bookstore). When I dropped At off, she wanted me to go on another walk and stay for tea, but I had to head to the monthly faculty meeting.
At kept coming up with reasons to stay--the weather was perfect for walking, the book we hadn't finished discussing (Sophie Lewis's Enemy Feminisms), another random thing At wanted to say about a connection between Kafka and Lispector... Tearing myself away was hard. It's going to get harder if At gets one of the jobs she's applied for in Seattle.
Pic: Last-day photo of my women's lit seminar. (Photo posted with requested permission.) Every time I look at this photo, I find myself smiling back. I have so much love for my students... but look at those smiles, they make it so easy. I'm looking forward to traveling to the U.K. with some of them next month on our Spring Term.

I’m so excited for your trip with your students! They will have such an amazing, formative experience!
Your time with At sounded wonderful! I bet it’s hard to think of her moving to Seattle, though!!
Oh, I'm excited for your trip!
Woof, one the one hand, Seattle is a great city and I'm sure At will love it. On the other hand - it's far from you!
You get out so early. North won't be home for another month and only then if they can submit their final exams from home (depends on the class). But I guess OC's winter term and your college's spring term shift the semester in different directions.
Sounds like a lovely day with At. You are so close. I know you'll miss each other if she moves away.
Nice.
Oh, the lingering and lingering of At! That's so very sweet and poignant. She's already feeling the stretching of the umbilical with her imminent move.
I love the body language of your students. It's so loving and familial.
You will have such a wonderful time in England! So excited for you. And just as excited that you got to spend time with At. Is there ever enough?
Awe! I love it when the big kids so obviously want to spend time with us! (And also, that sounds like a DELIGHTFUL day)
Thanks, Lisa... I hope the first comes true and I know the second is true.
It'll be a nice place for me to visit too--right, Nicole?
(And also, I just looked up the distance between Vancouver and Kelowna.)
Another month! Ooof! We started the first week of January though.
There aren't a lot of opportunities for At here, so I think I'll be happy if something works out for her professionally...
Thanks!
It was just the two of us in the world for a while :). It's time for her to fly, though...
Thank you, Nance... I feel that photo turned out quite special.
Thank you, Jeanie. I've been cribbing from your UK trip :)!
Right? That's a win! (But wait there's more--there was Sushi too.)
Oh goodness, Michigan to Seattle? I don’t think I’d like to live that far away from my daughter. On the other hand, people do it all of the time, and you’ll have plenty of opportunities to visit!
Strangely, I find myself ok with it. Perhaps I'm just kidding myself/am in denial.
