when I let go

I seek rest while my words
continue to work like
beautiful outlaws
for although I am meant to go
I know no one has died
          of being tired
look--objectification in the mirror
is closer than it appears
and yet I find
          I've started to imagine myself
          as someone with holes
          in my hands

We haven't got any daffodils here yet, not that I've seen anyway. So maybe they are early? Who knows, those are beautiful!

Gorgeous poem!! You are so talented!! No daffodils here yet either but hopefully soon. It’s always so encouraging when they start to bloom.

I love it. But- I'm sensing that you need a little rest, Maya!

Those daffs are beautiful. My mini-daffs are out; the big ones, not yet.

Beautiful! I love daffodils. We still have about half of ours, but the season is waning.

"I know no one has died/ of being tired"

This immediately brought to mind the lyric from the James Cleveland song I Don't Feel No Ways Tired:

I don't feel no ways tired,
I've come too far from where I started from.
Nobody told me that the road would be easy,
I don't believe He brought me this far to leave me.

You know I'm not a believer, but this felt like a parallel to me.

I saw my first daffodils last week on campus! But the ones in our yard have not yet popped out. Seems early to me, but what do I know?

DC is awash with daffodils! It brings me joy! All the flowers are really a balm to my heart this year. It feels like they are personally reminding me that beauty and goodness still exist! And if they exist then hope is alive. :)

Yay flowers!

That poem...wow. That's all.

The daffodils...ours are almost all spent by now. I loved them while they were here, though!

They'll go strong for a couple more weeks too...

Thanks!

Omigosh, Lisa--Thank you. I like this moody piece, too. I do want to make more stand-alone work... working on that. Yes, daffodils and forsythia are such sunshiny harbingers of hope at this time of the year :).

Haha, Jenny! I guess you caught me. I think it's the news that's really making me tired, honestly!

Thanks, Jeanie. Enjoy your minis, I should get some minis, too...

Thanks, Steph... I remember how you rescue injured daffs and take them home :)

I had to look up James Cleveland, but wow, Nance--these are some powerful lines!

Thank you, J--that means so much coming from you.
You're always so ahead of us. I'm looking forward to lots of flowering scenery from your walks.

Yes, Steph! Hope exists even in D.C.!
It's like that Neruda quote: "They can cut all the flowers, but they cannot stop the coming of Spring."

Same! I'll take any sign of hope and beauty I can get...
