I'm comfortably numb and really grateful for anesthesia.
Yesterday's freakout reminded me of when I went to have my wisdom teeth removed twenty years ago. The new and very kind dentist went over the procedure and the probably standard spiel of complications like nerve damage, bruising, etc... I started crying. I still have all my wisdom teeth. I still wonder if I traumatized that young dentist.
If I'm navel-gazing, I think it's not so much the needles and pain I'm afraid of (although that too) as much as all the talk of what could go wrong, because I will imagine every detail and I will imagine it happening.
Anyway, I plan to be on campus tomorrow, so time to prep or rest or read... Grateful for pep talks from the fam and friends today. Grateful for fam and friends.

glad it went ok! I also still have my wisdom teeth! NO plans to ever get them out or maybe even get the kids' out unless they need it for crowding reasons (I have a huge mouth).
Good for you.
Good for you.
Yay! Glad that's over with. And, I had my bottom wisdom teeth out about ten years ago and it was the worst thing I ever did. Keep yours in your mouth if at all possible!!!
Yay! You did it! Hurrah! I think because I've had so dang many procedures and have been on so many drugs with not great potential side effects that I am just kind of numb to all the risks that they review. I did worry about the bleeding risk when Will had his tonsils out - and then heard from his Sunday school teachers about how their son hemorrhaged on day 10 and almost died! It's a husband/wife due and I could tell the husband was like "oh, don't tell her this!!" because after she shared the story he was like, "but our son was 14 and Will is much younger." I had to kind of shake my head to get the thoughts of their experience out of my head!
Oh yay! So glad you went through with it and that it went okay. I am with you on imagining all the horrible outcomes. I honestly don't want to hear about it, which probably doesn't count as very informed consent.
Good for you. I have a terrible phobia of hospital infections. I will do anything NOT to be put in a hospital. I understand fears and how they can work on you; you were very courageous.
I'll go back and check your other post. I bet I checked your blog before you'd posted about surgery. I hope all is well. No pain is the way to go. I had my biopsy today. Hopefully we'll both be ship shape when Lisa comes. I haven't had taco bell in ages -- I miss it! Hang in and chill today!
So glad you had it done and it’s over and no horrible things happen. Those worries always freak me out. A week or two after my daughter had her wisdom teeth out, there was a story in the news about a guy who suffocated on a piece of gauze while getting his procedure, and if that had happened prior there is NO WAY I would have let her go under for the procedure. I didn’t go under, just Novocain and a little laughing gas, and it was fine. Actually, the laughing gas made me stoned enough I was hoping he would pull ALL of my teeth, it felt so cool to have them out. HA!
I had my wisdom teeth out about 10 years ago. I remember the dentist saying after the first tooth was yanked that most people are relaxed after that one because you don't feel anything. I was all...people don't feel that? It wasn't pain, per se, but I could feel the pressure and the coolness of the metal dental tools! It was fine in the end and my mouth hurts a lot less now that they're gone.
I have a phobia about general anesthesia, which can be difficult, but the other side of it is that I am willing to have almost anything done as long as I DON'T have to have general. So I feel you. I'm so glad it's over and your cyst is gone and you got your Taco Bell.
Yay for a successful health experience!
I haven’t eat men Taco Bell in a very long time, but I feel like you influenced me. ;)
I will say that the delicious thing I ate today was cottage cheese mixed with homemade lemon curd made with love for me by my mom. It was so satisfying both the taste and the love! ❤️
(that was Steph :))
Yeah--I forget if I had issues but they haven't resurfaced in twenty+ years (knock on wood) so... same.
Thank you, Steph!
:)! Thanks, Nicole!
Thanks, Gillian!
I'll keep my wisdom teeth, Jenny. (I do recommend the cyst removal though!)
Lisa!!! OMIGOSH!!! A and I watch a medical drama show called "The Pitt" and this week (we're behind) there was a case where a teenager had a hemorrhage after a tonsillectomy and it made me very worried for Will but also I didn't want to pass on that panic to you. I do wish the couple hadn't told you though.
Continued healing wishes to Will <3
Haha, yes. Some days I'm all for the golden age of medicine--just decide for me.
Nance--Thank you. And now I'll be an enabler and agree with you about hospitals and hospital infections.
Wow, Jeanie--You must be feeling delicate today too. Yes, let's chill today so we can be ready for next week's excitement :)!
The things that can go wrong are terrifying, J! Sometimes it all seems so _Final Destination_ like.
But I was giggling by the time I got to the end of your experience! A round of laughing gas for all of us, please!
Glad that worked out for you, Engie. I'm wincing from reading that though... what is wrong with me?!?!
Allison--I was thinking about you because the thing was on my shoulder and my shoulder pain, which I always assumed was muscular, feels better.
Anyway--I hear you about the GA too. My fear comes from that weird phenomenon where people are immobilized but can still feel the pain and that's terrifying.
I could eat Subway every week (and some weeks Thursdays are Subway days) but Taco Bell is once or twice a year--I can't explain it.
Steph--If you do get Taco Bell (what a bad influence I am!) get the potatoes!
Your own treat sounds delicious and tender, and so summery!
GREAT JOB! I'm glad you got it done and it went easily for you and TACO BELL as a reward. Woop!
I learned recently that my wisdom teeth never came in! I need to ask my dentist about this the next time I have a cleaning. I was astonished!
