Somehow I'm the shortest human in the frame, 3/6 are smiling, and 4/6 are looking toward the camera... Perhaps it can't get better than this? I kind of like the excited and slightly wild vibe.
Offices seem deserted at work, but it's SO BUSY! My online Gaza course is winding down too. The big challenge here is to pare down my lecture slides as students are accessing materials from internet cafes, so big files are a challenge to download. Also, it's grad school application deadline time, so recommendation letters are due everywhere. Over at my regular job, it's finals week, and grading is piling up. It's a breathless kind of busy. It will get better this weekend.
Also, Nance commented that I must be proud of At, and--omigosh--I so am. In 2022, it was pretty heady and I wrote, "We’re so very proud of At, our labor organizer extraordinaire, who made national news for leading the first Chipotle in the country to unionization. I like these articles featuring At and coworkers:
Slate "Two mad-online leftists. The Starbucks-worker playbook. And an accordion."
Labor Notes "How Zoomers Organized the First Chipotle Union"
Jacobin "Chipotle Workers on How They Won the First Chipotle Union in the United States"
Washington Post "Michigan Chipotle outlet the chain’s first to unionize"
Related story in the Washington Post "The labor market is still red-hot — and it’s helping union organizers"
NPR "Chipotle in Michigan first to unionize for the fast-food chain nationwide"

You know, I love a photo that's natural and relaxed. I always sent my kids to school on School Picture Day dressed like a usual day. Same for family photos. Your holiday photo is great; it looks just like it should--like your family.
At is so smart and tenacious. What a huge undertaking! You have every reason to be proud. I read as many articles as I could access, and I was incredibly impressed.
What a proud mama!
I love the photo! It looks chaotic and fun and colourful, and I feel like that suits your family in the very best way! (reminder! Canada Post is on strike. Your holiday card is sitting on my desk waiting for the strike to abate before I can mail it. This may mean you get the card in...July? Who knows. Sometime in 2025 for sure, there is no chance it will get there this month).
I kind of forget because I'm not "in it" but December is such a busy month, isn't it?
Lovely photo of a lovely family.
Good luck finishing up your semester. Is your Gaza class pass/fail? I can't imagine grading students who were working under those conditions.
Cute
I love the photo! It’s very hard to get a group of prior together and to have everyone looking at the camera and smiling! The photo is so bright and festive, too!
Wow, I’m so impressed with At! Thanks for sharing those article links! You must be so so proud!!
Great photo!
And I really enjoyed learning about At’s work and listening to the radio interview. Well done, At!!

I think my kids did the same for photo days, Nance.
And thank you so much for reading! There's been a fair amount of stagnation since then, but those were heady times.
Thank you, Nicole. I'm so sorry for the strike (solidarity with the workers, but I know how much the mail means at this time of the year!).
Thanks, Steph. The whole things blows my mind... I've written to ask precisely that this morning. Lille and An-Naja, the universities who lead the initiative, are very insistent on maintaining "standards."
Thanks!
I am so proud, Lisa! <3 Thanks for the sweet words on the photo, I do think it represents some of our chaos in a kindly way!
Thank you, Steph. I love the Slate article for how nerdy it is :)!
There are so many layers to it, Maya. Right now there are also a lot of small businesses suffering because they cannot send out their parcels, which makes consumers rely on the big stores like amazon, which is sad because this is the time of year where small businesses can make their living. And now the bigger courier services like UPS and Purolator are no longer delivering because their systems are so backed up. So many sides to this strike and no one "wins," you know what I mean?
Nicole, That thing about small businesses is heartbreaking!!!
