At my work, things are definitely in a state of agitation--perhaps more than in previous years? Some of it is the weird FAFSA rollout this year which has enrollments down at the college, which has everyone and everything down. As a result, my email is a deluge, which is good since there are all sorts of fires to put out every day.
Also, I have a new medication that makes me sad and leaves me nauseated as an extra perk.
In the meantime, Nu's senior year "kickstart" is tomorrow (they plan to attend with friends). I guess we're really doing this! Senior Year.

Pic: I don't know what the purple flowers by the water are (weeds, probably?) but they're spunky and pretty. From my walk yesterday.
*Song: This one, obviously.

Nice.
Le freak! C'est chic!
Ugh, I am sorry about your run of shitty things lately. That really sucks. I hope the medication is worth the sadness and nausea - that is, I hope it's doing what it needs to do. But Maya! You are a dear person who has such a tender heart and from my far away but loving vantage point, a medication that makes you sadder, well. I'm holding you close in my heart, is what I am saying. xoxoxo
August is a tough month for anyone who teaches. It's that limbo--trying to grab the last best parts of summer in a hurry whilst prepping for school. I always felt like I was living in an InBetween, and I sometimes just felt at loose ends, almost wanting it to be over so I could feel a sense of pure direction.
I'm sorry about your meds giving you those bothersome side effects. No one needs that one-two punch. Especially in August.
I'm sorry August isn't going your way. Is there another med you could try? It seems like North was just starting their senior year. It goes quickly.
The FAFSA rollout is killing me! Who didn't realize it would impact Every Single College Student? Okay, fine, I guess there's a small number who don't get federal financial aid, but certainly it's less than one percent at my institution!!
These transition periods are so hard. Even I'm struggling and nothing about my job actually changes! (This is patently untrue. I'm teaching two classes that start in LESS THAN A MONTH and one of them doesn't even have a complete syllabus ready.)
Thanks!
Nicole, my sweet, kind, Care Bear friend... thank you. XOXOXOX right back at you!
I'm smiling, Nance. You made August sound like a diagnosis... and it is!
Steph--I was thinking of North's senior year too :)! The meds are very new (and expensive) so I'm going to stick with them and see if I get used to them. It has been suggested that taking them with a big meal may help... (fingers crossed)
Engie--I knew you would feel this too! We're really hurting over here! You have time to do the new course preps... you've got this!!
We have been insulated from the FAFA debacle at my institution, and Harry got no aid, so we weren’t using it as a decision maker. But Ben’s campus is feeling the pinch for sure, as most private colleges have GOT to be. And it is delayed again next year? WHAT THE HELL. I hope August is smooth sailing ahead for you
FAFSA obvi
