Spring Awakening

I'll admit it: I booked tickets to go see Spring Awakening because it sounded spring-y and the music was by Duncan Sheik (and "Barely Breathing" started earworming my head as soon as I saw that). I went into it not knowing anything about it, and it turned out to be pretty heavy (violence, self-harm, suicide, child sexual abuse, back-alley-abortion death, etc.). Oy. It took me a while to get into it as it wasn't at all what I imagined it would be like.

But walking to the theater after a morning working on the pond, and seeing glorious daffodils everywhere, and hearing incessant birdsong, and knowing it was Tamil New Year... all that was suitably spring-like.

Pic: Intermission pic of the Spring Awakening set since photos were prohibited during the show.

Ooooh that would be a shock to the system, looking forward to one thing and then having it be completely different. Yikes.
Daffodils! They are coming up here too!

It is so hard when things are different from expectation! It looks like a lovely stage set-up, though.

The only thing I know about that play (or think I know) is that it has been controversial in some times/places because it has a lot of onstage nudity. Am I thinking of the right play?

We went to see Our Town at DC high school on Saturday because North was reviewing it. Much tamer, but very well done.

Nicole--Yes! Yes! Daffodils!

Gillian--thanks!

Engie--Yes... and the actors were all so earnest. I felt a bit bad for not enjoying it more.

Steph--Yes :), this was the one. Simulated masturbation and sex galore too.
