Every morning as I wake
swimming with dreams
wrestling with the dark
our world is ready to stack
before me, crisp towers
of lists and leftovers
from the night behind me
and so I enter the strange
thing that is the day
like an all-you-can-eat buffet
the return of my appetite
some bright miracle
Pic: MSU's spirit rock in honor of the Iranian women's protests. The highschoolers walking out over Virginia governor Youngkin's anti-trans policies, a lunch-time walk-and-talk with AK, my capstone students brilliantly knitting news with readings... I am grateful for decency and beauty showing up in this world.

I like the idea of the day as a buffet.
Virginia is right next door, so I've been following this story. It wasn't just kids in the DC suburbs (which are more liberal) walking out. There were some walkouts in rural areas, too, which requires more bravery on the part of the kids. (Though not as much as the Iranian protests. I always find people's courage in situations like this inspiring.)
Steph: I was so buoyed by your insight about the walkouts in rural areas and shared it with my friend SD who's visiting from MD. She used to live in Takoma Park!
And yes--the Iranian protests are inspiring (and terrifying)!
