E.M. and I met up later to see an open-air theater play. It was an assembly of snippets (Medea, Antigone, a bit of Aristophanes, + Homeric lore). It was powerful. Especially the Medea. The Parthenon and sunset peeking over the skyline made it all extra amazing.
It felt a bit like going back in time, what with our glasses of wine (I spilled mine halfway through the show when there was a jump scare) and the actors in masks.

I remember enjoying reading Greek drama in my theatre history classes decades ago. I would have loved this (especially if puppets were involved!)

I taught Antigone one year when I was student teaching. And Greek mythology one other year once hired full-time. I am not especially fond of either, but I think anyone would have been transfixed in that setting.

Jeanie, I'd wager that you definitely would have liked this. The masks (I never got the point of them before) were amazing. No puppets, though.
Agree, not a fan of Greek drama as much as I revere their importance. But these snippets were perfect. There was one piece from Aristophanes that was so ageist and misogynistic that it fell completely flat--the audience just wasn't having any of that!
