in the abrupt language of going

even before I can probe
life's chronic condition

hello to day and goodbye
looping around dalliances

every lifetime seeming
 an infinite too artificial

they say you're gone forever
but you're never dead to me

I find I plead for more time
even if it ends up a hard time

No one is gone forever, so long as we love and remember them. I think of them as "living somewhere else" where we can't see each other or speak together, but we know what they would say.

I love how this poem explores Loss. After we lose someone so dear, so vital, our lives can feel superficial as we (try and) live them afterward. Grief is so hard. Acceptance takes time.

The last two lines are very powerful.

I love this, and thinking of how you said you want more time, even if it’s hard. I remember dreaming about my mom after she died, that I found a way to bring her back…and among thoughts of how to figure out Social Security now that she had been reported dead, she was also driving me NUTS and I wanted to get her an apartment nearby. LOL.
