But here I am. Long journey--two planes. While we were waiting to board the second plane (we were in Group 8), they began boarding the first-class passengers. A student (only) half-jokingly asked when they would get to travel first-class and I really felt that. I held up my hands in blessing and said I hope it happens soon for them. (So long as they don't go into teaching, I guess.)
Typing this from a camp cot in a church dormitory. The fam was a bit concerned about me navigating communal living because I can be a bit princess-y, but I'm doing fine so far.
We're supposed to do some grocery shopping for the week tomorrow. I want to make one or two dinners for the group...
I kinda miss Max and Huckie already. I would miss Big A, but he was on the verge of doing something I disagreed with, so I'm a bit mad at him.
Pic: Another crepuscular sighting!

I love the Sarasota area! We have vacationed there a few times. I have 3 sets of aunts and uncles that live a bit south of there in Venice. The beaches of Sarasota are beautiful. It is so generous of you to spend your spring break giving back! I hope you are getting good sleep despite the communal living situation! Although I know good sleep for you looks way different than it does for me (I am a princess in terms of how many hours of sleep I need…).
Take care.
Good luck with the communal living! I am also princess-ey and so I get it. It's a beautiful thing that you're doing, Maya.
I need more details on the princess-ey, and want to know how Huck is doing. I hope you have a wonderful week, at least it will be nice and warm! (It was almost 80 here yesterday, crazy.)
A cot! With how many others? You truly are heroic. It would be a tough scenario for me. My sleep hygiene routine is strict by necessity. Bless your heart.
I hope all is well with both Huck and your husband. I can't wait to hear all about this trip.
I'm never good with communal living, mostly because of my coughing, which can keep people awake! (And me too.) That would be harder than hauling hurricane damage for me (and that's not my strong suit either!)
Oof, I hear you on communal living. Lucky them if you're cooking! I love that you are admitting to being mad at Big A. Hope your time away is restorative.
"...he was on the verge of doing something I disagreed with, so I'm a bit mad at him." This made me laugh. I hope it gets sorted out before you get home!
Glad you've arrived safely and have gotten settled in. Looking forward to hearing about the trip.
I didn't realize how fancy it is here. From the job description I imagined it very differently.
Thank you!
Thank you, Nicole! Princesses unite! (What a labor union that would be!)
I will say more about that--sorry to be remiss with the updates. Texted you that all is (mostly) well.
The cot is fine, and I'm afraid I'm the one who might be a nuisance to other people's sleep schedules :/.
I'm looking forward to the hard labor... Really the reason I came. Once I need to sleep, I can sleep through anything--so if we ever go camping, Jeanie, I won't even notice your cough. (Kidding, I would NEVER go camping!)
Actually, I may not get a chance to cook... I'm blown away by how independent these kids are!
Oh, I'm so tough... he's properly repentant!
Updates are due! I suspect it will be fairly repetitive through the week though.
Sarasota! You're so close to me! I'm about an hour north of Sarasota. :) I hope you have a good time. I would definitely struggle with the communal living aspect.
