you have to shut your eyes to see it
that's when the day goes dark
running like a scar seaming
running like a scar seaming
into something close
I stop, blind as a person in a photo
coming to the raised edge
of spectacle to gather
you, mother
from vast violet evenings to say
goodnight, knowing I will
endure--or at least see
___________
Pic: Squirrels on the MSU campus... honestly, they seemed monkey-sized!

Oh yes, my friend. You will endure. Sometime enduring is really tough. But you will. I know this.
Take care.
That simile "blind as a person in a photo" really struck me. What an incredible image. I've never thought of that before, and now I can't stop thinking about it. Wow.
Beautiful thoughts here, maya. And the sound effect of "vast violet evenings" is lovely in that stanza; it adds so much meaning.
Such terrific work. A good, good poem. XO
Thank you, dear Jeanie <3
Thank you
Thank you, dear Nance; continuing to tinker with it...
That crossed out phrase at the end. :( So beautiful, Maya!
Thanks, Lisa... I'm sorry I've been a downer lately!
