Mixed: Back on campus for a full day of Fall conference today. It's delightful to see everyone after a summer of being away. And every year I find myself missing people who aren't here. Some of them are happily retired, some resigned unhappily, some moved on to other places, + a significant number of jobs were cut last December. There were a few absences today that were unexpected and I don't know if they're gone, are quiet-quitting, or just playing hooky.
Mad: I'm upset that the funds I wired via Western Union in a hurry to help with my mom's medical bills last week were put on a hold. They didn't bother to tell me until I called them and then asked me a bunch of annoying questions to "protect me from scammers." You know what seems like a scam to me? Quietly sitting on my money for over a week when you promised it would be transferred in 15 minutes. I chose Western Union over a bank transfer precisely because it's supposed to be available in a matter minutes rather than days, but here we are ten days later. Ugh.
Pic: Mellow: An ice cream treat with Huck and Max. I get the chocolate part; they get the vanilla.

Oh that's so frustrating! Did the money finally go through?
So they put the money on hold, didn't tell you about it and then you had to call them? That is WRONG. Hope it's resolved now.
I can see how you would have mixed feelings about being back on campus- glad there were some "delights" as well.
Take care.
I AM ANGRY ON YOUR BEHALF!!!
WU preys on people needing to send remittances and also is often peoples’ only/best option. ๐คจ
You are a kind and caring daughter! ❤️

Is your summer over already? I can't believe it. Certainly that pales in comparison to your feelings on the subject.
I find all banks to be snooty and officious anymore. They all act as if they are the boss of us and our money. Seems to me that they ought to remember 2008 and be a bit more humble.
That's horrible about Western Union. Are the missing people due to layoffs in your department? I know there were many across the U but not sure how they were distributed or if through attrition/retirements.
Wow, a week? The money that you sent WU so it could get there FASTER? That’s BS, they should refund you all of the fees they charged. Ugh, I’d be truly pissed.
Today! 12 days! Ay!!
I'm just a cranky dragon these days, haha!
Thank you.
Thank you, Steph ๐. I did think about how predatory this whole thing was. The bank transfer was definitely more expensive and also involved being inside a bank, having an account, etc. Life is expensive and requires so much money... gulp!
Nance, as I do at the beginning of every Fall term, I remind myself that there are plenty of summer weekends left!
I want to think your father would be so proud of your last comment! It made me chortle. (And also, I think of what we did for banks and the motor companies in 2008 every time they make a big deal about forgiving student loans.)
Jeanie, it's a mix of all of those. Some part of my brain still expects to see everyone, I guess...
More than a week, J! (12 days) As Steph said, people (usually immigrants and/or poor) don't have options!
