I checked out of the last set of work meetings early so I could spend some extra time before dinner with Nu on their last evening home before college.
Dinner was grilled cheese (by request), friends dropped off brownie treats (LB) and chocolate (BL) for Nu to take to college, Nu's friends had helped them pack while I was at work, and Nu had done all their laundry and finished up by stacking all the college stuff in the rumpus room.
I got an extra long and tender kiss-hug goodnight. I may have clung on for an extra moment or two. Nu is still my baby. They're still just 17. But it's off to college tomorrow. I'm so excited for them!
Pic: Max inspects Nu's stacks of dorm stuff while a blurry, harried Nu explains. Max doesn't know what's coming and is going to miss Nu SO much! Huck has weathered At going off to college and may remember how that works. Scout was so mad at the world when At left... He'd sort of storm off through the doggie door and sit outside glaring up at the house. It was hilarious and sad.

It's the big day! What a milestone in your home. I think you said the college is pretty close to where you live so at least you'll be able to see each other fairly often - that's the case with Mark, he's only 30 minutes away. Oh, what an event! Best of luck to Nu!
Thinking of you all! Big change! Good change!
Sending a sandwich (now also the food of the resistance! ;)) your way! Xo

Oh goodness, wishing them an EXCELLENT time, and I hope that mom does OK as well, and of course the puppies. They will be a bit shocked I am sure.
I guess today is the big day. I hope the move-in goes smoothly and is happy as well as sad for you.
By North's request, we are having egg roll bowls for dinner the last night I cook before we leave (which isn't quite the last night we're home).
Oh my! It's the Big Day for Nu and the family. So exciting!
I'm thinking of all the incredible foods you've talked about here before, and chuckling that your baby wanted grilled cheese.
Here's hoping that Max can find solace in Huck and the people who are still at home.
Maya, even before I saw this post I was thinking about you today. Good luck with everything, and treat yourself to something special tonight. Hugs <3
Good Luck to all.
Thank you, Nicole!! 30 mins is how far At is... The difference is more than minutes and miles though...
Thank you, Steph. The food of the resistance! <3!!!!!
Thank you, J! The puppies are getting so many extra snugs--I didn't even think that was possible.
Thank you, Steph. I want to believe that North's request means their appetite and health is improving. <3
Thank you, Nance. The grilled cheese made me smile too... and I wonder as well if they were being kind because I got in at 5 and there was a lot to do and they wanted to keep things simple for my sake.
Poor Max. He's so hopelessly devoted to Nu...
Jenny, thank you. And I absolutely love how we all kind of look out for each other... I hope I get to meet you some day!
Thank you, Gillian!
Off to college. Your home is going to feel a little different for a bit. I hope all goes well with the move in and all. (I would have requested grilled cheese, too!)
My nibbling moves to college today. I know their mom is worried about the transition since it’s the first child she will send to college. But I am so excited for them! College is when I really met my people and were some of the best months of my life. I wish the same for Nu and my nibbling E!
