I had looked forward to today--on the family calendar as a college orientation day for Nu. But when we got to orientation, kids and families were separated early in the day and I didn't see Nu again until pick up time. Nu met their roommate, gathered some some people who followed them around, got some swag and their ID, and generally seemed to have had a lot of fun. I made the best of things.
After making us dinner I was looking forward to an evening of quiet reading while Big A went off to ride with his bicycling club and Nu watched old episodes of Rupaul to recuperate from the day... but I got a text message from Big A's Garmin that he'd been in a crash and I was his emergency contact.
Luckily, although he'd wiped out, Big A is alright. We went to the E.R. to get his road rash cleaned and to get some stitches, and that's where I got my quiet reading in this evening. We're back home now.

That must have been an alarming notification. I'm glad it wasn't more serious. Also, glad Nu had a good time at orientation.
Oh wow, I'm glad he's okay! Sheesh!
College orientation!!! Sunrise, sunset, landslide, etcetera.
Take care.
Yikes! That's not a good way to end a busy day! Glad everything is okay. How are you feeling about Nu getting ready for college? I was just thinking about my daughter leaving (in two years) and I got really sad!
Glad he's ok! Terrible text to get. I was feeling the same way at Harry's orientation. I thought it would be an us day, but it was a me day, and I was unprepared.
Yikes. I'm glad Big A is OK. I know those guys really let it rip on the Wednesday night rides. I always live in fear of that every Monday and Wednesday (and it has happened before with Rick on one of those.) They're intrepid -- they clean up and go back to it. But it's a horrible feeling. Here's hoping Nu liked the roommate -- it sounds like a great day and orientation though.
I’m glad Nu had a great day, sorry that you didn’t get to spend more time together but likely that’s by design. ACK on the wipeout, but thank goodness it wasn’t more serious. I do like that you still got your reading done! Intrepid reader!
Nothing in your day turned out the way you thought it would! You had such pleasant things in mind, but they didn't turn out that way at all. I'm glad your husband is okay--that's a scary text to get--and that Nu had a good experience at orientation. And that you seem to be handling it all with aplomb.
Oh, man. I remember when Dr. BB crashed and broke his collarbone. It was not a fun trip to the ER. I'm glad Big A is doing okay now.
We separate our parents and students before lunch. It's actually really nice for me not to have to deal with parents, but too many of our students just literally have their parents on the phone for everything. It's incredibly crazy to see how reliant young adults are on their parents (at least to me - when my parents dropped me off at college I tried to only call home once every week or two).
