the young(er) guy I married...

is now 51! How does that happen?! It seems like just yesterday when turning 30 was such a big deal :). And now here we are with grown-up kids ourselves.

Happy Birthday, Big A!!

We had dinner out with the kids and then dessert and presents at home. I made a pineapple upside-down cake (birthday request) that turned out perfectly. (I subbed freeze-dried raspberries for maraschino cherries as At has allergies.) And the Fireclaw I drove to pick up yesterday was a BIG hit! (Nu wanted one too!)

What a festive table! And look how happy the Birthday Guy is.
Thanks for the link to the Fireclaw. I'm thinking it will make a great gift for a couple of people I know.

Happy birthday! I married a young(er) guy too - one month younger than my younger sister (only by twenty months). I did not know what a Fireclaw was but now I think we need many of them for camping next year.
Our friend had a Tiki party in the summer and I had pineapple upside down cake for the first time in decades.

Thanks, Nance! (I saw the Fireclaw at the Art Fair this summer and really liked how easy it was to handle. They're a small outfit, and I'm glad they're getting your business!)

Thank you!

Thank you! And... Yay! I think we're in the minority?

This is our first Fireclaw, but it seems solid, and handles really well, the people there are really nice as well.

Yes, a pineapple upside down is such a blast from the past for sure!

Happy Birthday Big A! My Grandpa used to make pineapple upside down cake, it always makes me think of him. I haven't had any in a few years, though. When I make it, I take some of the pineapple juice from the can and mix it with the cake mix. That seems so retro 1950s to me somehow.

Thanks, J. I did that with the juice too--because that's what the recipe said to do. The cake was so moist and sweet! Laughing about the 1950s comment. I hope I don't start putting jello in the salad...

I've even had students named after Greek philosophers before, but oh--the thrill of hearing "Aristotle!" or "Chimera!...
