just press send already

I should just press send, but I'm finding so many excuses to hang on to my manuscript.

One main reason being I can still find things to tweak and improve and cite and... and... and... every time I  open up a random page. How do professional writers do it?! (StephLove?)

It's 3:30 am, one more run-through, and then I really will send it. I swear. I didn't even go to the Juneteenth thing I was supposed to go to...

The series editor to whom this will go is in New Zealand, so I'll still technically be compliant with the deadline.

Pic: Max and I found scads of tadpoles in the pond this morning. I'm excited for our future frog chorus.

I love this photo. So tranquil and serene. (Not at all like your post!)

At some point you'll just top out and be Over It, and that's when you'll send it. Go ahead and read it again and fine-tune it if you have the time. What will it hurt? But be ready for it to be perfectly, exactly right.

And just Press Send with bravery and joy.

Enjoy after you send.

Well, I have hard deadlines is the short answer. But also, because I write so many more things than I did as an academic and they are so much shorter, none of them seem like an important part of the whole body of my work, the way a book or even an academic article would. Finally, I'm less invested because I don't choose my topics for the most part and I almost never get a byline. It's a whole different beast, really.

p.s. I would be excited for frogs, too!

Nicole--Done!

Nance--Oh, thank you. I sent with Bravery and Joy (Relief is close, right?)

Gillian-- :)

Steph--It is a different beast, as you say. My bestie KB does something like that now she's left academia. I will be in touch because I want to learn more for myself...

Some instances of writing I was happy to see today:
