Shamefully, I haven't gotten mine this year yet--I need two to three days to recover from the shots and the timing hasn't been right with travel to Arches at mid-term break and Greece at the start of winter break. I've promised myself that I'll get it right after Christmas.
I've also determined to work on my sleep hygiene. In my defense, there are some mitigating circumstances such as A's nighttime job, my own anxiety, my hankering for quiet hours, etc. The overall appeals of health and wellness didn't work on me--I felt I could deal with fatigue, aches and pains, hair loss, wrinkles, and all that. But At's specific warning of dementia really shook me. If I could go to bed at midnight, or even 1:00 am, and get 4-6 hours of continuous sleep that would be an A+ improvement for now.
I'm just saying--once I get my sleep sorted, I'll have no bad habits at all. I will be so boring.

Good luck
Hahaha no bad habits AT ALL!
I'm glad to hear you're going to work on the sleep hygiene. I won't lecture you because you already know! Okay, I probably will but only because I love you! Although I do get it, with A working shift, it does mess with the whole sleep schedule.
Now, the important part: the puppies! So cute! I always love seeing those fuzzy little friends.
My superhero neurologist put me on a sleep hygiene regimen years ago:
1. sunglasses starting at 7pm
2. off screens by 9pm (phone, computer)
3. try to go to bed and awaken at the same times every day
I've found that these help immensely. And I like looking cool in my shades and jammies.
No, I haven't gotten my shots yet, and I also haven't gotten the shingles vaccine, which I've been wanting for a while now, for the same reasons you mentioned. Well, I didn't go to Greece, but I just can't seem to find the time to take a down day to recover. Which is so stupid, because if I get shingles (or Covid, or the flu) I'll be out of commission for a lot longer than a day.
On tap for 2025- get those vaccines, and work on sleep!
It's true about sleep and dementia. If you'll forgive some shop talk, it's because your brain does housekeeping (gets rid of toxins) while you sleep. People have different sleep needs and you must be on the low end to function on what you get (I am on the high end), but I am pretty sure you can not be getting enough sleep.
Plus, think how you can lord it over everyone when you have no bad habits.
YES! I got both vaccines. The COVID shot knocked me on my ass for about 24 hours (I did it on Friday afternoon and was pathetic on the couch for a Saturday) and the flu shot did not even give me a sore arm. Make of that what you will. GET YOUR VACCINES, MAYA!!
I got both this fall. It's easy for me to do because I get zero reaction to them and I wonder if it's because of all of the immune suppressant drugs I am on for my RA? But I still get them of course and my husband got his far earlier than usual because last year he got influenza from the boys that turned into pneumonia and now he's team get immunized in September (he used to wait until late October/early November).
I hope you can find a way to get more sleep! I'm tired just thinking about getting only 5-6 hours of sleep. I will admit that I feel some shame about how much sleep I need (ideally 8 hours but even with 8 hours I can benefit from a nap). Nicole is my sleep cheerleader, though, and encourages me to not think of myself as lazy or lacking in some way because I need so much sleep!
Thanks!
Thanks, friend! XOXO
Nance, thanks so much for sharing those tips. Medical help was going to be the next step...
Will do! (And I'll bug you to do the same too :)!
I'm a convert, Steph :).
I will, Engie, I will! I'm ashamed I didn't get them earlier!!
I'm glad you're getting at least one good thing out of the RA regimen. I usually get my shots fairly early too...
Sleep is such a wonderful healer. (And always seems to have been acknowledged as such. At Epidaurus, they believed that if you fell asleep and dreamt of Apollo you would be healed...)
You should absolutely not feel self-conscious about your sleep needs, Lisa! Also, you're at least a decade younger than I am, and supposedly we need less sleep as we age.
