Corinth, Epidaurus, Mycenae, Nafplio

I've even had students named after Greek philosophers before, but oh--the thrill of hearing "Aristotle!" or "Chimera!" shouted down the street... or classical names on nearly every billboard and storefront!

We took off early this morning, stopping to see the Corinth Canal, geek out in the Sanctuary of Asclepius, be poseurs in the amphitheater in Epidaurus, pick our way around the tomb of Agamemnon and the acropolis in Mycenae, and finally finished up by wandering through the charming streets of Nafplio (where I said no to every piece of matching jewelry my sister wanted to buy).

Pic: Here we're on a very windy hillside in Mycenae with the sea behind us. (The sea always seems present in Greece...) And yes, we're wearing matching blouses.

WHY DID YOU SAY NO TO THE JEWELRY????
Oh, this sounds delightful, absolutely delightful! Greece! Sister time! But no jewelry? Well two out of three, I GUESS!

I hope you loved Epidaurus as much as I did! Reading about your stops makes me want to go back desperately.

What an amazing trip for you two! Have you done a big sister trip like this before? I would love to do this with my younger sister when she is done having kids (she’s pregnant with her 3rd so it will be years before we can do this). What a beautiful place to visit!! And I love the matching shirts!!

Engie, some rain today--but nothing like the Winter Weather Advisory my kid is peservering through to get to school back home. I wish I could send you some sunshine... or bring some back with me. I know we're due for our "dome of grey" in WI and MI for the next several months.

Nicole, It seemed too expensive and also so much fun to just yell "NO." (Toddlers are on to something!) But I can still change my mind.

Claire--your Spring term made me yearn for Greece--I know how that feels :). Epidaurus is indeed one of my favorite places.

Voluntarily even!

Oh, that's brutal. I've been checking the weather back home so I can remind the teenager who just had pneumonia to wear a jacket to school... I'm beaming balmy wishes at you, Nance.

(And another vote for jewelry!)

Jenny--It really is our lifetime dream. You know what... I think I will get a small piece to to mark this extra special trip.

StephLove--Hahaha

I know, me too! I look so strange, but the backdrop is so, so pretty!

Lisa--We've never done this before, but I hope this is the first of many.

My kids are finally at an age where I can take off; my sis has no kids but my parents live with her and finding care for them is fairly fraught.

I wish you many memorable trips with your sister! You may have to wait for longer trips, but you can still have smaller things like evenings and maybe even overnights before then?

Cute

Bhogi today; Pongal tomorrow

Tomorrow is Pongal, the start of the auspicious Tamil month Thuy, and I always think of it as a handy reset for any lagging New Year resolut...
