a proper Friday the thirteenth

Pic: My friend PJ sent this photo of the wildfires (one of four!) raging around her home in Redlands, CA. People two blocks north of them have been evacuated, but PJ and her partner and their menagerie of animals are still sheltering in place there... at least for the moment.

PJ's pic was both a reality check and a metaphor for today--I just had to disengage from some tasks to focus on other more pressing ones. This has been a week of missed appointments and misunderstandings but luckily the work week is at an end and I get to rest, reset, and restore my settings.

Oh gosh, that is terrifying. We went through that last year and I just remember how scary and helpless a feeling it is. I hope your friend is safe and that the fires become under control.

Egads. Fires are so scary. I hope your friend and her menagerie remain safe.

I was thinking of your fires last year, Nicole... what a welcome that was!

Thanks, Engie! All's well, so far. Fingers crossed.

I hope your friend is safe. I heard that the LA area had a simultaneous wildfire and earthquake, not a bad one, but still, that seems like piling on.

They're ok, Steph. I think the fires are under control now, and they've found the arsonist. I did not know about the earthquake!

How scary, Maya. Be safe. I always think of animals that are caught in the fires...I beat myself up when the appointments are missed but your writing reminded me to have compassion for myself.

going on 17

Nu turns 17 tomorrow and they have plans with friends, so we had our family celebration today with pizza, cake, and presents. Nu rarely want...
