that's so 90s

I shopped, I prepped, I read, I soaked, I fired up my Brittney Spears essentials playlist, and walked and walked and walked.

While I was making our dinner, Big A and I were talking about how Brittney had always been sort of a guilty pleasure for me amidst my largely alternative and classical Carnatic catalogue. There was always just so much tabloid noise around her that was distracting... and I'd felt like I needed to distance myself from that.

And while we're at it, I feel bad now about laughing at Monica Lewinsky jokes back in the day. I'm happy she has been able to reinvent herself as an anti-bullying advocate. I wish I'd been feminist enough to see the media pile-on for what it was in the moment.

Pic: Beal Gardens, celebrating its 150th anniversary, is always a delight.

I love Britney music! And I completely understand about Monica. In our defense, we were younger then and our gross misogynistic society was just so pervasive in its attitude. It wasn't until probably ten or fifteen years ago that it hit me - that woman's life was ruined. The president's life was not ruined. THIS IS A DISGUSTING INJUSTICE. It makes me so mad now, thinking of all the women who were ruined because a powerful man ruined them.

I misspelled Britney, didn't I?! Yikes!

Exactly, Nicole!

Nance--and it keeps happening... My kids reminded me about Amber Heard--that was after Me Too, but still went so badly.

I'm a low-key Miley Cyrus fan and I always feel like I have to defend her and then I don't know why because she's rich and famous and then I think about Monica Lewinsky and Anita Hill and Britney Spears and I get even more hepped up. So, I get it.

I always felt a little sorry for ML, but what I remember most was how I really believed Clinton that nothing happened for a long time and how foolish I felt when it was finally out there.

Mother's Day mess: It's a fine one, don't worry!

MIL was in town, so we had a big Mother's Day brunch like we used to have when we lived in Yellow Springs. I dug up some Lily of the Val...
