My calendar said I had RSVPed 'yes' to the annual Child Advocacy luncheon, so I went.
I did not know that I would be getting an award. (I guess that's why my director had insisted I be there?)
I did not know that I would be the only person there who was masked. (Maybe because people were expecting to unmask before eating anyway?)
Everything still feels a little unreal.

The only one masked...I am finding up here masking is less and less common as well. But the only one, yikes.

I watched my aunt's funeral online about a month ago and no one of the over a hundred people in the church was wearing a mask. It was in Idaho, but still... no one? Then the next day I watched Noah's band concert in New York online and it was about half and half. It varies a lot by location. When we were in your neck of the woods last month, masks seemed kind of rare.
A lot of people in Maryland still mask, enough so you don't feel strange doing it, and there are still places where it's required (some stores and all medical facilities). Public transportation just went mask optional but most people still mask on trains and buses.

As StephLove notes, it varies a lot by location, and I'm definitely in the minority here, but this was my first time being the ONLY one.
Masks offer wearers some protection, so I feel safe... but there are situations e.g. at the dentist where I would need the people around me to wear their masks to protect me.
