and a shock to see that the stubbed toe of yesterday is a bruise half-foot long (the toe itself is so painful and wobbly it is likely broken)
but at work, the kindnesses at my drab office door continue
and that's enough to make me feel lucky

Yikes! That sounds pretty bad. But a pretty plant and card at your office door is so nice, and another sign of your value as a friend and colleague. I'm not surprised.
