unexpected glimmers

"I can't find you... ARE YOU UPSTAIRS SLEEPING IN MY BED?" L texted halfway through the evening, making me giggle.
Actually, I'd left her holiday party early, and Big had brought me back home because I'd started some story and was going to cry. But before that I had a really great time.

And look, the hyacinths I randomly stuck into various planters are beginning to show... This one by my reading chair announced itself through its fragrance and then I saw its precious pink candy stripes.

Also, Max, Maxie, Max-a-Million, my late-in-life, baby is underfoot, curious, and with me everywhere.

I'm glad that spoke to you. I read it right after I read your post and it felt like a sign!

I'm glad you're finding beauty (a gift from your past self) in your home and that you are followed by such loving presence.

What a terrific idea--surprise hyacinths. I can imagine that scent right now. Wonderful.

Oh, the surprise hyacinths are such a gift! Sometimes the dark can so easily overwhelm the light... I'm glad you're finding pinpricks here and there.

I love the hyacinths, what a wonderful surprise this time of year!

I’m glad you took good care of yourself. Went to a party, and left when you needed to. <3 I really liked the article Nicole mentioned as well.

I've never seen a candy stripe hyacinth before. It's gorgeous and what a treat for you. Usually I buy paper whites at this time but never got to it. Next year! I'm glad you made the choice to leave the party if that was what you needed. So often we forge on, to our detriment. Well done with that choice.

Wow! That hyacinth is beautiful! L’s text is funny. You pulled an Irish exit. And that is ok! You do what you need to do to get through parties and merriment. Sending you love!

Thanks so much for sharing that... I used it :)

Truly, Steph. Small but almost miraculous.

Hyacinths always make the Hyacinth Girl from Elliot's Wasteland echo for me, Nance...
(And it's a good thing, I suppose, that I like strong smells.)

Winter does make the darkness so literal, Suzanne...

Thank you for that, J--I am learning :)

True, Jeanie. It seems so obvious, but sometimes I don't realize that I can give myself permission to do something until I read it somewhere!

I wonder if you gave me that hyacinth, actually! I remember you gave me one last year...

I did pull an Irish exit :)! I find that term so funny, because a couple of Irish friends have said their goodbyes tend to be long. Where did that expression come from?!

The podiatrist took a ton of x-rays today and thinks that my toe is healing great; YAY! It looks wonky, messy, and swollen--but I guess it...
